Dahlia imperialis £12.50
Mexican tree dahlia
What you get
You will recieve a well rooted 3ltr pot
Dahlia imperialis is a huge dahlia from Mexico that can grow upto 5-8m tall the largest of all dahlias but not quite that tall in the UK. The stems are thick and become woody at the base they hold divided velvety dark green leaves this clone also has a touch of purple on the leave and stem. I find it rarely flowers in the UK unless we have a long warm autumn the flowers are pink in colour and tend to appear in clusters. The corms can be left in the ground in milder areas if given a good mulch I prefer to lift them and store frost free. A great architectural plant for the exotic border.
Planting and care
Best planted in full sun and rich soil mulch in winter if you live in a sheltered mild area or lift and keep frost free.
