Eriobotrya japonica is a small evergreen spreading tree with big bold glossy dark green leaves that are heavily vained. It has woody branching stems and is a very versitile plant it can be grown as a large shrub or grown on a stem to make a standered tree. Hardy and a great structural evergreen plant for the exotic garden growing to 4m tall and 3m in width. Best in full sun or light shade. It produces fruit that are a cross between a plum and an apricot in the Caribbean they make marmalade out of it but it rarely fruits in the UK as it flowers in late autumn.
Planting and care
Best in full sun or light shade and a sheltered spot as they do not like cold winds.
